There appears to be a debate as whether flexibility or stability of the joints is more important to address first when considering the needs of golfers.
Regardless, both are required in order to elevate your game to the next level. If you do not have adequate flexibility or rotational movement in the spine, you will either create an injury, a change of swing plane, or another compensation in body motion.
It’s important to find out where your physical limitations are and address these issues first. In the example using lack of rotation at the spine, it’s virtually impossible for a golfer to create coil at the top of his back swing.
A lack of coil limits distance and increases pressure on the low back and other areas of the body. Simple stretches can be used to restore low back flexibility and a new game will emerge.
Try not to get ahead of yourself, just yet. Let’s restore normal flexibility to the hips, shoulders and spine so you can get more out of your game before your next tournament or round.
